Fourth Trajectory - The Glaciers
Melting glaciers lead to rising sea levels and a dramatic reduction in the water reserves on which ecosystems rely.
The dramatic melting of the Forni dello Stelvio glacier is an important litmus test of the state of pollution on our planet and one of the most obvious effects of ongoing climate change. Large-scale CO₂ production, deforestation and disproportionate exploitation of fossil fuels are causing a general increase in global temperatures, with a consequent reduction in Arctic and Antarctic ice and a progressive melting of large mountain glaciers.
Behind the scenes of Trajectory 4
“The situation is dramatic, both because of rising temperatures caused by greenhouse gases and because of the darkening caused by industrial pollution, soot from fires, debris, dust and plastic, as a result of which the ice reflects less of the sun’s radiation. Giuseppe’s shot shows me on this beautiful and poignant glacier, wearing a white dress made from waste material, a tricolour cape and the World Cup in my hand. A profile echoing the Statue of Liberty: I won and accomplished my life’s dream and, through this trophy, I want to further focus people’s attention on the environment.
Other shots show me in the thermal pool, with the wonderful backdrop of the mountains and the glacier: once again water and nature, the focus on the endangered mountain to underline how important it is to preserve nature, water and the surrounding area.”
